Carlos D. Villarreal
For Franklin County District Court Judge
I would be honored to be elected as the new Franklin County District Judge this upcoming November.
About Myself
I was born and raised right here in the Columbia Basin. I knew from an early age that I wanted to be an attorney and I was encouraged and inspired by my parents and their examples. My Dad was one of thirteen kids born to a migrant farm working family. He had a thirst for knowledge and wanted a college education. He attended the University of Washington and Harvard Business School and he then opened his own Insurance and Tax business in Othello, Washington. My Mom immigrated to the United States from Peru and after learning English herself, she went on to work for public schools as a para pro. My parents encouraged all their kids to work hard for the life we wanted and to give back to the community, I am forever grateful to them.
After graduating from Othello High School, I chose to complete a two-year church service mission. During this experience I enjoyed meeting new people and getting to know people from all walks of life, diverse backgrounds, religions, ethnicities, and beliefs. After that experience I went to college where I met and later married my wife Christine and we moved to Cheney, Washington where I attended Eastern Washington University. I earned a double major in Political Science-Pre-Law and Spanish. My wife and I had two kids during this time. Having a family during my educational journey gave me added purpose and motivation to achieve my lengthy goal of becoming an attorney. We moved to Lansing, Michigan where I graduated from Western Michigan University’s School of Law. After law school, my wife and I felt the pull to “come home” back to the Columbia Basin. We had three more kids, set our roots in Pasco, and continue to raise our family here. Our oldest two children have graduated from Chiawana high school. Jacob, our oldest, chose to serve this country and joined the army. Autumn, our only girl, is attending college and working hard on her education. Our other three boys are keeping us very busy and entertained at home. When I’m not at work; I enjoy cheering for my kids at various sporting events, working on projects around the house and yard, playing with my dog Roscoe, taking my wife on dates and spending time as a youth group minister mentoring and motivating them to see and achieve their potential.
What qualifies me for this position?
First, I have worked closely with and built great relationships with the current retiring judge, the court administrators, the court staff, prosecutors, probation officers and bailiffs within the Franklin County District Court and Pasco Municipal Court. I am the only candidate that has more than 8 years of being judge pro tem in Franklin County District Court and 13 years as judge pro tem in Pasco Municipal Court. I have earned and continue to earn the respect of both courts and I have built solid relationships both professionally and personally with those who have worked there over the past 13 years. I was personally selected by the current Franklin County Disctrict Court Judge, theHonorable Jerry Roach to sit as the Judge Pro Tem over 8 years ago. I respect him, I have learned a great deal from him and I would be honored to maintain the professional decorum he has embodied during his tenure.
Secondly, I have been practicing law for over 15 years with 13 of those years building my own practice and though it was difficult and took a lot of time and perseverance, it has been worth it! The skills I have gained from being an attorney and a small business owner/operator are going to be invaluable to bring with me to the position as Judge. I have demonstrated leadership, commitment, and the ability to invest whole heartedly in the people who have sought me out for help over the years.
Third, I care deeply about applying the law with integrity. It is always my goal to be fair, firm, and just in the courtroom. I want to encourage those who I encounter, to do better and be better. In my time spent as a youth leader I instill values such as kindness, honesty, integrity and hard work and I will carry those same values over to my position as Judge if elected. Lastly, I consistently exercise and demonstrate reasonable judicial decisions as judge pro tem by ensuring that all parties are treated fairly and equally under the law. I am ready to, as they say “hit the ground running,” if elected as the Franklin County District Court Judge because I possess the skills and experience to do so. I would greatly appreciate your vote on November 8th!
